Foodie Friday #2: Cantina Laredo

I was in London recently doing a spot of shopping with my mum as a belated birthday celebration and attending the Bodhi & Birch launch which I have already touched on when we came across this beautiful modern Mexican restaurant in Covent Garden called Cantina Laredo.

The things that stood out to me the most about this restaurant was the separate vegetarian menu that you can ask for which not only highlights their vegetarian meals off the normal menu but also has a few added starters and mains for vegetarians which I think is fantastic.
(you'll have to excuse the lighting in these photos as my camera really does not like dark places).

As we were so hungry we started with one of their most popular starters, the Guacamole En Molcajete which is their famous guacamole freshly made at your table! I loved this touch as you can add the ingredients you would like, we decided on having all the ingredients shown and the guacamole was quickly whipped up within two minutes and served up with some tasty warm tortilla chips.

The guacamole was fantastic and definitely the best I have had and will try recreating at home. This serves two people as a little filler which was really nice to pick at whilst talking about our day and deciding on the rest of our food.

After the guacamole I chose a starter as my main as I have a pretty small appetite sometimes. I chose the Oaxaca Quesadillas Con Hongos which were really light and utterly yummy toasted flour tortillas with oaxaca cheese (I can only compare this to mozzarella) with mushrooms, peppers and sour cream and more guacamole on top! These were absolutely delicious and the best toasted tortillas I have yet to try.

My mum chose the Enchiladas Del Mar which had tiger prawns, fresh fish and scallops sautéed with mushrooms, peppers, spices and cheese and then topped with a sweet chilli de arbol cream sauce. I did try some of this and it was cooked perfectly, my mum really enjoyed it and said she'd definitely eat it again.

When in Mexico (metaphorical mexico) churros are an absolute must, these were the Cinnamon and Sugar Churros served with an orange crème and chilli chocolate sauce. Even though I was utterly stuffed at this point but was persuaded by my mum to at least try them and they were glorious! The only ones I have tried that beat these were in Disneyworld a few years ago.

Mum ordered the Tequila Lime Cheesecake with a passion fruit sauce and an avocado ice cream (yes, avocado ice cream!) she really enjoyed it and the avocado ice cream was really really good, I have never tried anything like it. Mum also really liked the rest of my churros as they were extremely light and non greasy.

The restaurant was really beautiful and the food and service were absolutely wonderful! I will definitely pop by again when I am in London and if you like great Mexican food then I'd recommend you putting this on your list to try. They also have a gluten free menu.

Have you tried Cantina Laredo? What restaurant would you recommend in London?

*Disclaimer: I was not sponsored for this post or given free items I just wanted to share a wonderful restaurant with you and give my thoughts. All of the restaurants featured in any upcoming Foodie Friday's will not be sponsored either and if they ever are they will be marked with a (*) so you know. My opinions are 100% as always*

    1. Thank you so much for reading! It's funny because I hate store bought guacamole but if I make it fresh or it'd made fresh without all the stuff the supermarket makes it with I love it! I don't know what they use in supermarkets but it always tastes so weird :/ the churros were so so good :) x
