Urban Decay Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion

The Urban Decay Primer Potion has to be one of the most talked about eyeshadow primers on the market and for good reason.

Before I started taking note of what makeup was out there I didn't even know eye primers existed but seeing as eyeshadow is a favourite of mine and I rarely do my makeup without it I really thought it was about time to purchase an eye primer. After reading a few reviews and being a fan of Urban Decay I opted for their Original Eyeshadow Primer Potion (£16) after going through the four options of Primer Potions they have. I was originally drawn to Sin which is their shimmery primer as it looks beautiful alone and under eyeshadow but thought I would go with the original one for now.

The Primer Potion claims to give 24 hours of lasting eyeshadow wear, vibrant colour and no creasing. I can attest to the vibrant colour as well as the no creasing but in terms of 24 hours of lasting wear I can honestly say I have never worn my eyeshadow for 24 hours BUT it does last until I take my makeup off myself so one would assume this could last that long! I find my eyeshadows smudge less and have less fall out when using this primer too which is especially great if you have sensitive eyes. Again, I wear contact lenses and have never found this to affect them in anyway or make my eyes more sensitive.

The formula comes out as a nude beige colour but applies transparent on the lid and leaves a smooth primed eyelid to apply colour onto. The tiniest amount is needed and I love the fact it comes with a handy needle-nose tip as there is no product wastage. I always apply a tiny bit to my ring finger and apply it that way and know that the tube will last me an age. I have been using this for the last three months and feel as if I am maybe half way through it but can tell there is more than enough to last another four or more months.

I really cannot fault this primer and find my eyeshadows not only look nicer and blend easier when using this product but the colour pay off of even my least pigmented eyeshadows always impresses when using this.

Have you tried the Urban Decay Original Primer Potion? What are your favourite primers?

  1. Sorry about the above comment, huge spelling mistake haha! I love this primer! Haven't even bothered trying out anything else and I've been using this for years! I wore it to a wedding once where I needed to do my makeup in the morning and didn't take it off till 3 that night so it's the closest I got to 24 hours and my eyeshadow lasted perfectly! X

    1. That is alright hehe! It happens :P I am so glad to hear it does last as long - I think the longest I work it was 16 hours and it was great! I shall be testing out the longevity in the next few weeks and see how long it does actually last! xx

  2. I ran out of my last urban decay primer and I'm still so sad about it! I really need to repurchase soon. It really does make eyeshadows look so much nicer, not to mention blend a whole lot easier! X

  3. I have a sample size of this and am quite enjoying it. It really does act well as a primer though I don't think I'm in love with the texture. It's quite thick/sticky and can sometimes be hard to blend if you've used too much!

    1. I love the texture but then again I only use a tiny amount anyway so I never have the blending problem :) I put on less and then add some if it needs it :D x

  5. I have a few samples of this from various Urban Decay purchases, and I love it! I've tried a few other primers and had the problem of eyeshadows sticking to them and not blending well, but never with this one. It deserves all the hype!
